Commercial Real Estate Loan Administrator-Team Lead

Silvergate Bank has an incredible leadership opportunity on our Commercial Real Estate (CRE) team.  We are seeking a CRE Loan Administrator Team Lead.  The incumbent will be responsible for completing the pre-signing audit review of the department’s loan documentation to include drafting of supplemental legal documentation and ensuring all documentation is properly prepared, legally binding, mitigating all loan and collateral risks; and processing, documenting and closing complex commercial real estate loans including construction.

  1. Maintain current knowledge of all federal and state laws and regulations, along with the Bank’s policies and procedures.
  2. Pre-signing documentation review of Commercial Real Estate Loan Documentation generated by LaserPro, Lawyer Pro, and outside legal counsel to ensure documentation conforms to loan approval, includes proper collateral perfection, and documentation language to minimize bank risk.
  3. Responsible for obtaining and reviewing all entity documentation, determining required signatories per the defined entity documents, and ensuring documents are prepared and appropriately executed to be a legally binding document. 
  4. Responsible for drafting proper loan documentation language for required loan covenants and conditions. 
  5. Review of title issues and resolutions, leases, purchase and sale agreements, appraisal engagements, and other credit agreements to assess risk and determine necessary documents to mitigate such risk.
  6. Draft landlord waivers, lien subordinations, inter-creditor agreements, and other supplemental loan documentation for complex loan transactions. 
  7. Review and approve department’s processing and closing work to ensure department procedures were met and all risks are addressed and file is ready for loan closing.
  8. Be the primary point person for the loan documentation team for loan documentation questions, structure, and training.  Ability to train the documentation team on LaserPro. 
  9. Perform all functions of loan processing and closing to include preparation of loan documents for complex commercial real estate loans using LaserPro and outside legal counsel. 
  10. Assist department manager with assignment of workload among documentation team. 
  11. Ensure all processing timelines are met and maintain active communication with lending personnel regarding loan documentation / closing status. 
  12. Ensure that all loan structures and documents follow and adhere to regulatory requirements (Reg B, Reg O, appraisal regulations, etc.), and provide lender security.
  13. Coordinate loan closing with branch personnel, lenders and customers. Ensure all loan closings and bookings are completed timely and adhere to all closing conditions.
  14. Prepare loan boarding package including closing checklist, boarding worksheet, wire transfer, and other forms necessary for closing and boarding.     
  15.  Ensure all post-closing searches and required documentation is complete.
  16. Assist lending officers with customer contact in person and via telephone.  Participate in client calls and/or loan signings as necessary. 
  17. Assist department manager with development and maintenance of the desktop procedures manual.
  18. Attend internal and external seminars relating to business lending and regulatory requirements.
  19. Assist with internal and external bank examinations and audits as requested.
  20. Provide notary services to internal and external customers.
  21. Supervises the loan processing team.

Interacts with all levels of management and staff.  Also interacts with borrowers and third party vendors.  Ability to make decisions on legal documentation language and issues to comply with internal and external regulations and ensure mitigation of lender’s risk.  Ability to discuss application and documentation requirements with management, loan officers, staff, and customers and know when it’s appropriate to get management involved.   

  • Extensive knowledge of business, commercial real estate, and loan processing.
  • Ability to assess loan structures, determine required loan documentation and language to properly collateralize loan and mitigate bank risk.  Assess collateral lien issues and develop resolution to ensure proper priority and perfection. 
  • At least 7 years of experience in loan processing and documentation or similar legal documentation work.
  • Must be detail oriented, able to work on multiple tasks concurrently, and have the ability to prioritize tasks consistently throughout each day.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Proficiency in LaserPro, Excel; Microsoft word; Microsoft outlook; Powerpoint and the internet.     
  • Knowledge of required financial data for loan processing and decision
  • Notary license
  • Excellent knowledge of title issues
  • A four-year college degree or equivalent
  • Must have High School diploma or equivalent
